With a sound resembling celestial layers, DreamVacation recently released a new EP, Thin World, on July 27, via Laser Ghost. DreamVacation, based in Los Angeles, California, showcases the musical ideas of Zilva Thustra (vocals, guitar), Gerry Matthews (bass, synth), and Noah Alexander (drums, synth). The trio has previously shared the stage with notable acts such as Foster the People, Airborne Toxic Event, and Matt & Kim. Taking a moment from their everyday lives, they generously contributed some time to share about the process of creating the new EP, their essential tour items, and recommended some restaurants in LA.

Dreamy. Synthy. Anthemic. Together, these three words describe Moxi’s sound. Moxi, based in Los Angeles, California, connects the musical minds of Anna Toy (vocals) and Andy Toy (keyboards). They are getting ready to release a new EP, Figures Bathed in Light, on August 18, 2017, via CatBeach Music. The duo have previously played shows with numerous acts, such as Sir Sly. Aside from their busy schedules, Anna and Andy carved out some time to share an inside look on their beginnings in music, a couple of their essential tour items, and what the “Moxi” drink would be.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Post Animal (Chicago, Illinois)

With a smooth, synthy, feel-good sound, Post Animal is surely gaining more exposure beyond their local music scene. Formed and based in Chicago, Illinois, Post Animal showcases the musical talents and passion of Dalton Allison, Jake Hirshland, Joe Keery, Javi Reyes, Wesley Toledo, and Matt Williams. They self-released their debut EP, Post Animal Perform the Most Curious Water Activities on October 27, 2015, followed by various singles, available via Bandcamp. They have previously toured with Twin Peaks, alongside playing various shows and festivals, such as Sofar Sounds and the Chicago Psych Fest VIII. Aside from their busy schedules, Matt Williams generously contributed some of his time to discuss the beginnings of Post Animal, shared some restaurant recommendations in Chicago, and additionally, came up with the “Post Animal” drink.

As a duo, Bassh shares a sound marked by heavy guitar topped with upbeat vocals. Formed and based in Nashville, Tennessee, Bassh combines the efforts and talent of Jimmy Brown and CJ Hardee. Following the release of their debut track, “Body,” they recently released “Animal,” a little over a month ago, on October 21. Generously taking some time out of their lives, they shared the process of creating “Body,” what the “Bassh” drink would consist of, and what happens before they go onstage.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Annie Bacon & her OSHEN

Annie Bacon & her OSHEN is fronted by Annie Bacon, who is a singer/songwriter residing and based in San Francisco. Creativity, truth, and emotion drive her sound to a whole new level, a level audible via guitar, vocals, and a variety of other musical instruments. Not only has she written numerous songs, she has also composed a folk opera, which was adapted and performed at Brooklyn’s Puppets & Poets Festival in 2013. Most recently, she released two new tracks, titled “What We Said” and “Nikki’s Song.” Despite her busyness as a mother, she kindly contributed some time to discuss her beginnings in music, along with naming some places to definitely check out for food in San Francisco plus some artists she would consider to be her musical guilty pleasures.
